Industrial producer prices rose by 0.7% in the euro area (EA19) and by 0.8% in the EU28, in all member states except for Cyprus, where the recoded a decrease by -0.2% in June 2016, compared with May 2016.
In May 2016 prices increased by 0.6% in both zones. In June 2016, compared with June 2015, industrial producer prices decreased by 3.1% in the euro area and by 2.9% in the EU28. In an annual basis, industrial producer prices dropped in all Member States except Malta (+1.0%) and Cyprus had the third largest drop (after Greece -7.3% and the Netherlands -6.2%).
The 0.7% increase in industrial producer prices in total industry in the euro area in June 2016, compared with May 2016, is due to rises of 2.4% in the energy sector, of 0.3% for intermediate goods and of 0.1% for both capital goods and non-durable consumer goods, while prices remained stable for durable consumer goods.
Prices in total industry excluding energy increased by 0.2%. In the EU28, the 0.8% increase is due to rises of 2.8% in the energy sector, of 0.3% for intermediate goods and of 0.1% for both capital goods and non-durable consumer goods, while prices remained stable for durable consumer goods. Prices in total industry excluding energy increased by 0.2%.
The 3.1% decrease in industrial producer prices in total industry in the euro area in June 2016, compared with June 2015, is due to price falls of 8.7% in the energy sector, of 2.6% for intermediate goods and of 0.5% for nondurable consumer goods, while prices rose by 0.4% for capital goods and by 0.8% for durable consumer goods.
Prices in total industry excluding energy fell by 1.0%. In the EU28, the 2.9% decrease is due to falls of 8.6% in the energy sector, of 2.3% for intermediate goods and of 0.5% for non-durable consumer goods, while prices rose by 0.6% for capital goods and by 0.9% for durable consumer goods. Prices in total industry excluding energy fell by 0.8%.
