Cypriot athlete Georgiou at the finals of individual all-around gymnastics at Olympics

Cypriot athlete, Marios Georgiou qualified yesterday for the finals in gymnastics, men`s individual all-around.


The 18 year – old athlete, who thus made one of the greatest successes in the history of this sport discipline in Cyprus, earned 85.289 points in the qualification round, thus securing his place at the 24 finalists.

The finals will take place on the 10th of August. Georgiou is the youngest of the 24 finalists.

Today, one more Cypriot athlete, Andri Christoforou, will compete in women`s 140 kilometres cycling-road race. Her qualification at the Olympic Games is a great personal success. Christoforou is ranked 67th in the world.

Meanwhile, yesterday, 18 year – old Sotiria Neofytou competed in the women`s 100m butterfly, finishing 38th, while 22 year-old Iacovos Hadjiconstantinou in the men`s 400m freestyle, finishing 47th.

Fifteen Cypriot athletes (of which six women) will participate in the Games, in track and field, sailing, gymnastics, shooting, swimming and cycling-road.
