Police investigators have begun probing the financial activities of the Community Council of Kissonerga following allegations of theft and fraud.
According to state radio, statements are already being taken in connection with the case – following instructions from Attorney General Costas Clerides.
Members of the council – both past and present – are said to be under investigation while the matter has also come to the attention of Auditor General Odysseas Michaelides, who was alerted to the matter by a lawyer representing some of the council members.
Some of the alleged crimes include theft of public funds, fraud and wilful concealment. Witnesses claim that fake receipts had been set up to cover over-inflated services or simply to hide money that had been swiped from the fund.
Kissonerga village is situated just north of Paphos .
