Taxi drivers across the island will stage a four-hour strike on Friday between the hours 7:00 am to 11:00 am in protest against the apparent lack of interest shown by the Ministry of Transport to the problems that their profession is facing.
The strike expects to disrupt the normal traffic, and police urge motorists to be extra careful and to follow road signs and traffic police instructions.
Major roads are expected to close in all cities as many taxi drivers already gathered at Makarios Stadium in Nicosia, at the new port of Limassol, the Larnaca Airport to Larnaca and Paphos airport, awaiting the start of the four-hour strike.
In Nicosia, between the hours of 7:00 am – 9:00 am, the following roads will be closed to traffic:
On Strovolos Avenue in direction from Strovolos towards Nicosia, the left lane will be closed approximately 200 metres before the traffic lights in Athalassa Avenue.
On Athalassa Avenue in direction from Piraeus Avenue towards the traffic lights at the Strovolos Avenue, the left lane will also be closed.
The left lane will be closed on Grivas Digenis Avenue towards the traffic lights of the Grivas Digenis avenue with 25 Martiou, towards the traffic lights of the Grivas Digenis avenue with St. Procopius.
The left lane and the bus lane will also be closed at the roundabout towards the “DIAS” media headquarters towards the traffic lights of the street St. Procopius with Grivas Digenis Avenue.
Then, between the hours of 9:30 am – 10:00 am, the following traffic roads will be closed:
Left lane of the Constantinou Paleologou street will be closed from the Thermopylae street heading up towards to Nicosia’s City Hall.
Near Ipeirou Sq, at Solomou Statue, one lane will remain closed in the direction running from K. Pantelides street up to the traffic lights connecting Omirou Street and Anast, Leventis Street.
